PROPERTIES
Glycerine is a viscous clear oily liquid; it has a sweet taste.
Glycerine is manufactured from petroleum, or from glycerides in fats.
USES
Glycerine is hydrophilic and it can keep moisture in certain food or cosmetic
products. Thus, it is used as emollient or moisturizing agent in products such
as hand cream, toothpaste, soaps, eye drops, ear drops, suppositories etc.
It also lowers the freezing point of water, and is used as an anti-freeze.
A familiar compound results when glycerine reacts with nitric acid in the
presence of sulfuric acid as a drying agent.
